Sequels have a lot to live up to and when you are the follow up to a film that was both a critical and commercial success that raked in almost a billion dollars, the pressure is on. That being said, writer / director James Gunn is back with his second installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and after seeing it, he has nothing to worry about. He nailed it.
We laughed, (a lot), we cried (when we didn’t expect to) and we even got pissed off, (but we won’t spoil ANYTHING for you so relax.) Gunn returned with new characters, exotic locations and more sci-fi action all rolled into a film that folks have been flocking to the theaters to see this opening weekend. (Many of which, according to their social media posts, will be going to see it for a second time!)
By comparison, “Guardians of the Galaxy” opened with $94 million but “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2″ is tracking to bring in between $145 – $150 million for its opening weekend. Marvel Studios were also wise to offer Gunn the third installment in the franchise, which, to fans delight, he has accepted and already begun working on.
All last week, The Poster Posse counted down the days until the film opened with one of their signature “Poster Posse Passion Projects.” If you are unfamiliar with The Poster Posse, they are an agency comprised of artists all over the globe who have officially collaborated with and created art for movie studios, book publishers, magazines, etc. When they aren’t working with clients they launch these tributes and today we are going to share some of their work from their “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” project along with some great interviews from the cast.
